Thank you for visiting the FCGS Web site.

The Society was formed in the boom days of the early 1950’s and has been an important part of the Four Corners’ community ever since. To learn about the purpose of the Society as stated in the bylaws go to FCGS GOALS. FCGS was incorporated on August 15, 1950 and after two years boasted a membership of 86 geologists. It had not yet become affiliated with AAPG.

Meetings are generally held every month on a Friday evening, except during the months of June, July and August when we recess for the summer. The meeting place alternates between Durango, Colorado and Farmington, New Mexico, depending on availability, scheduling, and other factors. Meetings follow a format in which there is a social hour, dinner, a short business meeting and a speaker. We try to vary the topics so that a wide range of interests are addressed. Friends, guests, spouses, students and the general pubic are always welcome.

We also conduct field trips, river trips, annual picnics, publish books, and participate in various educational endeavors. The FCGS in cooperation with the Four Corners Geological Society Foundation awards grants annually to Masters Degree students and to Fort Lewis College seniors.
