Description:
Participants on the Mesozoic of Durango trip last spring will remember looking at a caliche clast conglomerate in the lower Chinle (Dolores) Formation in Hidden Valley. This unit was interpreted by Dr. Bill Dickinson as the basal fill of a Triassic paleo-valley system. Participants will spend an afternoon with Dr. Gianniny measuring a section through these deposits in a different location to evaluate this hypothesis. Participants should come prepared to examine the outcrop in detail, including sedimentary structures, grain size, clast composition, bedding geometries, stratigraphic packaging and more. Rumors are that the outing may end up at a local brewery!
